ASEAN Trading Link went live yesterday with Malaysia and
Singapore becoming the first two connected markets in the 10-nation Asean.
Thailand is expected to be linked by the middle of next month. Bursa Malaysia
Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Tajuddin Atan said a total of 31
brokers from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand have joined the much-awaited trading
link, signalling a positive start to the rollout. He said that the link is key
to the region’s goal of breaking down various cross-border trade across Asean. He
added that the aim is to create more investment opportunities across the region
and spur greater liquidity in the Asean capital market. – Business Times
